Some Mobile Statistics

Mobile website development

The first step in creating a mobile marketing campaign is a mobile website. Even though most smart phones can access your website, the small screen of a mobile phone makes it difficult to view and navigate websites designed for large monitors. We offer two solutions. The first is to create a WordPress website and use a mobile plugin that re-formats the content for mobile phones. You can see an example of how this works by visiting this site on your mobile web browser. The second solution is to create a mobile only site. Please visit our web design services page for more information.

Is a mobile website necessary to run a mobile campaign?

While we recommend that you have a mobile friendly website, you can run mobile campaigns without one.

SMS text messaging

A short messaging system (SMS) is the primary means you will use to communicate with customers. Unlike e-mail messages, which are prone to spam, there are privacy laws and best practices in place to help prevent spam by text message. Every user on your list will have the option to opt out if they do not wish to receive further text messages. That’s why it’s important to work with a mobile marketing consultant who understands the laws and best practices and who can guide you on the best mobile marketing strategy.

Mobile coupons

Of all the various things you can do with mobile marketing, mobile coupons should be at the top of your list. Your customers are willing to receive text messages from you on a periodic basis, but you have to be offering something of value if you want them to respond.

The ability to receive mobile coupons is the primary reason people will want to opt in to your list. But to be effective your mobile coupons should offer something better than your other channels such as e-mail or print coupons.

Mobile coupons are also green. You may even reach a point where you’ll want to abandon printed coupons altogether. Want to see it in action? Just text the word CLICKHEREOFFER to 96362.

QR and 2D bar codes

A 2d or quick reference (QR) code is a special type of bar code that can contain information about a product or service. A user with a QR code reader application can snap a picture of a QR code and receive a link that will take them to a mobile landing page. This could be to your mobile site or to another site such as Google Places.

Here is an example of a QR code. If you don’t already have one, download a QR reader to your phone and snap a picture. You can view a larger image by clicking on the image.

QR codes can be used for other purposes besides providing links to mobile landing pages. They can also be used to provide additional information about a company or product.

Once you see the versatility of what a QR code can provide, you will find numerous ways to implement this mobile technology.

Short codes

A short code combined with a special keyword is yet another way to engage with your customers. Every mobile marketing campaign requires a list or database of customers and their mobile phone numbers. One way to build this list is to gather phone numbers through the use of short codes. An example might be an advertisement for people to join your mobile club by texting the keyword JOINNOW to 74654.

We take care of the whole process for you from checking keyword availability to setting up the shared shortcode.

Short codes and keywords can also be used for other purposes such as to solicit donations for non profit and charitable organizations.

Location based social media

Location based social media is one of the more exciting opportunities in mobile marketing. Imagine being able to offer specials and discounts to mobile users near your place of business. This is now possible through location based social media sites like Foursquare.com, Where.com, and Facebook places. We’ll show you how to take advantage of this new trend.

Event Messaging

Text messaging is a great way to communicate with event attendees. An event consisting of many different vendors could put up a mobile website containing special offers from participating vendors. The event attendee would first opt in by agreeing to provide their cell phone number, knowing in advance that once they are at the event they will receive special offers via text message.

Any event where there is a large number of people such as sporting events, conventions, art fairs, etc., can take advantage of event messaging.

Reminders via text message

Any business or organization that needs to send reminders can now do so by text message. A medical practice can now send appointment reminders the day before a scheduled appointment. That same medical practice might also use text messaging for special promotions and for customer retention campaigns. A dentist, for example, could send out a text message to a patient reminding them that it’s been three months since their last checkup.

PPC ads for mobile

Setting up a pay per click mobile campaign is yet another way to drive traffic to your mobile site. We handle PPC mobile campaigns through Admob, Where.com, Google Adwords, and Microsoft Adcenter. Each platform has its advantages and disadvantages. We’ll help you choose the best option for your needs. You can learn more on our Adwords services page.
